this is me helping you helping me

I've tried to avoid posting the Followers tab on my blog. I didn't want to become obsessed with it and have it become some sort of physical manifestation of my alleged popularity. It's like when I ran for Student Body President against Mark Mabry. I never had a chance, and yet... !  I seem to run towards failure and then am shocked when I find it.

What can I say? It's a gift.

In an order to be transparent, I want to tell you why I am now asking for you to be a follower of my blog. It's not pure vanity. Really.  I've had the chance to correspond with a couple of agents and publishers of books. Almost all of them stress the importance of a new, unknown author having a visible "presence" online. It makes their job easier, and then makes my chances of getting published greater.

So, I am going to bribe you for it. With a huge dash of PRETTY PLEASE! And a little bit of "you're my favorite."

VALENTINE'S GIVEAWAY

Win this for YOU and/or your loved one!

Gift includes:
  • $25 gift card to Outback Steakhouse
  • Gold Vermeil and Tiny Diamond Initial Necklace from Sundance Catalog (click here for more info) (any letter--see info)
  • Godiva Chocolate Bar
  • Mrs. Field's tin heart with chocolate
  • Love Songs mix CD to put you in the MOOD (made by YOURS TRULY)
  • one of my awesome hanger hearts

WHAT? SERIOUSLY, Ahh-nna?

oh yeah!

All you have to do to enter is:
* Be a follower of ahhnna.blogspot.com.  See the right hand side to become a follower.
* Leave a comment telling me that you are a follower and why you LOVE or DISLIKE Valentine's Day!
* For an extra entry, link to my giveaway on your blog and tell me that you did so in an additional comment.

Comments must be made by Thursday, February 3 at midnight MDT. I will pick a winner at random and announce it on Friday. (I am in no way paid or sponsored by any of the above gifts, except maybe the hanger heart and rad mix cd.) (And, to be sure, the irony is not lost on me that Mark Mabry is already very successfully published.)

Bon chance and MERCI BIEN, mes amis!

Anna I am now a follower of your blog! I love Valentine's Day because it is one special day set aside to show those you care about how much you love them. I know it can be argued that we should do that everyday and I try but I like having a day set aside for it as well.

I am a follower and I DISLIKE Valentine's Day. I actually love to give my daughters Valentine's treats with a knock at the door.

Valentine's Day for adults is kind of lame. Everyone is going out to eat, and you can't find a restaurant. It is crowded, and forced. For us we have fixed the problem.

I went on my first date with my wife on Feb 12th, so we always use that as our Valentine's Day.

It is way better on the 12th. At least for us.

Nicole said...

Anna, I would have been a follower on your blog even without the goodies :) You really are a gifted writer. Hmmmm..........Like or Dislike Valentines. I guess now I'm married I like it, although with 4 kids it does take some effort to make it special (as I'm sure you well know.) I will post about your giveaway on my blog also.

I am a FOLLOWER and I LOVE Valentines Day. I love it because the purpose of it is to make me feel loved AND I get to gorge myself in chocolate and other delicatessens for the sole purpose that I am loved. There is no other holiday like it. It's genius. Oh, and there are lots of fun Valentines crafts. Hope you get your ego boost! You have been in my prayers.

I am following you my friend!
I "like" V-day. Its a great reminder of how much you are loved and appreciated by your family and friends. However, that should be everyday!

I am so a follower!!! I dont know about Valentines I love and dislike it, It is a hard one I love hearts I love candy hearts (have not had any this year)I love pink and red, I love LOVE!! but it is also pushed on you. I like to just be able to do LOVE things! I dont know where I am going with this. I think you are a fabulous writer I love reading your blog everyday. Even thou I might not put a comment.

I was already a follower.

Valentine's Day, to me, is a day set aside to ponder why I don't date, which leads to eating chocolate, which leads to gaining weight, which leads to more of the same whole non-dating game. I enjoy the chocolate part enough to look forward to Valentine's Day, though.

All you had to do was ask . . . it's not all the fluff that got me (though I wouldn't mind winning - I think you threw the Outback card in there for me). I love Valentines. I just love it! I love the colors, I love the simplicity of it, I love extra loving, I love any day where everyone's just a little extra happy.

I am a follower! I have never really been a big fan a Valentine's Day, and my husband is the same way, so we celebrate Arizona's birthday instead!

Following. Following.
Mark Mabry? You were just unlucky in what year you were born, that's all. I mean, I didn't know him in high school, but now . . .
There's still time.
And I'll link over here tomorrow.

i thought i already was your blog follower? now, it's official.

and i love valentines day because i think deep, deep, deep down i will always be a hopeless romantic-i'm in love with love.

p.s. i don't really remember, but i'm willing to bet i voted for you Ü and i'm not just saying that bc i want to win your fabulous prize! [no hard feelings, mark.]

Angela Henrie said...

I believe I was ALREADY a follower. Does that count for extra? I love Valentines Day...I love conversation hearts, flowers, a heart-shaped box of chocolates, and a stuffed animal for my bed. The more tacky, the better! (Just like the people I LOVE)

Angela Henrie said...

And do you know what I always do? I always enter contests I know I'll never win, just so that I can feel that let-down feeling over and over again. Makes me feel alive...

Alan Macfarlane said...

I'm in! I'm a follower. You get the benefit of another follower, and your followers get the benefit of my inability to win!

I hate Valentines because I don't like being compelled to do anything. I'm not the best chocolates and flowers guy the other 354 days of the year, but I get no enjoyment doing it for Valentines.

CJ pretty much summed up my sentiments. Valentines Day can die a violent death, for all I care.

I'm a follower forever and ever and boy, do I ever want to win your great give-away.

I LOVE Valentine's Day. I'm a complete hopeless romatic (hence, my addition to The Bachelor) and am excited by whatever the hubby sends my way, as long as it has "love" written all over it.

Pretty sure I voted for you, how could I not? Yet, Marky Mark was quite fun to have around. BUT, I'm sure you would have been much more fun, right?

Anna, I love your blog (my sister does too). I have always liked Valentine's Day. Halloween is a completely different story. I'd love to do away with that holiday.

I don't mind Valentine's Day...considering I got married on the 13th of Feb. So it's nice for us to celebrate 2 for 1! I think it's a good holiday to remind people that they do actually love eachother! :)
p.s. I love the cute necklace.

I am a follower of your blog! I like Valentines Day. V-Day is a great excuse for eating lots of chocolate, getting roses and going out on a date with the hubby. You better choose me, since you are announcing the winner on MY BIRTHDAY!!! Oh, and by the way, we will be in Mexico, so I will redeem my prize when I get back!! Thanks girl!!

I am a follower. I think i dislike Valentines Day becasue there aren't really any great presents for guys and I alwasy fill bad getting a gift and not giving one to him. Also, I was looking for a restaurant to go to dinner and with all the restaurants in Portland most of the ones you would have Valentine's at are booked. I mean 14 days in advance!

Wow! Where did all these people come from all of a sudden? I am now an official follower of your blog!! Exciting!

Valentines day ... I think I like it. I like to write a heart felt letter to my husband and children. But, I've discovered most men hate it for the very reason Alan expressed. So, I try not to put too much pressure on the men in my life!

Kari said...

I will follow you anywhere Ahhna if you are giving your cute hanger hearts away. I'm in just to win that! :) By the way, I love love love Valentine's day. It's my 2nd favorite holiday just because I love having an excuse to tell everyone I love them...oh, and I love the red and pink we moms get to decorate with!

Helen Macfarlane said...

I'm not sure what you mean by your 3rd instruction, but I linked you on my blog.

Midge said...

Of course I'm a follower. How else would I keep up on the happenings in your life!
Valentines is a love/hate thing for me. I love everything pink and red. I loved it growing up. I would lick cinnamon lips and hearts and stick them to my locker.
I love buying pink and red heart shaped balloons. Balloons are my other favorite so add in pink and red and I'm in heaven!
I love/hate doing valentines for my kids classmates. I love finding fun new crafts to make. I hate it at 10:00 p.m. the night before when I realize that the so called quick and easy craft isn't so easy when you multiply it by as many as 4 kids times 30 per class.
I love decorating the table in red, white and pink with streamers and confetti everywhere. I love heart shaped meatballs. I hate making them.
I love chocolate dipped strawberries.
I hate the excuse to hate valentines day because you don't want to be told when to tell someone you love them. Seize the moment and make the most of it.

Kaylie said...

I think hearts and flowers and chocolate are fun, and I like them all, but I also think that like every other holiday, I resent the idea that I'm supposed to spend gobs of money on it to enjoy it.
PS. I'm a follower.

Julia said...

I am a follower! I love Valentine's Day because I never mind another excuse to go on a date with my handsome man and tell him how much I love him. And it's a nice excuse to make chocolate covered strawberries--a recent love for me.

How is it that I followed your ms blog, but not this one? I feel like a first class chump....however, if you make me the"random" winner then I might feel much better!

I looooove valentines day because it is one of the funniest movies out there....& cheesiest. The scene with jennifer garner confronting her married boyfriend in the restaurant? Classic.

Oh! The holiday? I honestly don't think i'd miss it all that much cuz we never really celebrate it, but maybe we will this year...all thanks to you!

Michelle said...

I am a follower! I like valentines day, but I don't really celebrate it because my anniversary is two days later! It's nice to wait to go on a date until a night where every restaurant in town isn't completely full.

Denton Santitorium told me to come over and so I did and then I saw your stinkin' cute picture and your darling posts and I had to!

Give me the number of those agents or book people or whomever, I'll let them know who is the best!

I love Valentines Day.
NOT because my sweet husband does anything wildly romantic, but because it means JANUARY IS OVER!!!!!

Alicia said...

I love your Blog! :) I like V-day. Any excuse to go out with your sweetie is good enough for me!

Anne said...

Okay okay, I'll be a legit follower instead of a Google reader addict. What a fun, totally Anna giveaway! I'm a big fan of the mix cds of course and even get Ben to listen to mine sometimes. :) Let's hope I win because I know you'd like the initial necklace in an "A" (and I would totally mail you something chocolate!)

As for Valentine's, I can take it or leave it. I love the pink and the red and the cute things that go along with it but it's not usually a super romantic day for us. I have to say, though, that the smell of smoking meat is better than any perfume to my husband so the Outback card would definitely be romantic for us!

Anne said...

Oh man, I forgot to say about the Mark Mabry thing, what can you do- that's rough! He has some great pictures but I'm sure your book would be much more entertaining. Plus, he thought it was weird when Ben and I were lovely dovey at my cousin's wedding a week before ours (I just thought it was crazy they weren't on their own day!) So I guess I just think he's a little funny!

I am a follower!
And why do I love Valentine's Day? Valentine's day has held a special place in my heart since my sister and I started going on V-day dates with each other in high school. At the time, I wasnt active in our church and she stayed by my side and made that special tradition with me.
Now, I am married with 2 children, very active in my religion and my sister is on the opposite end. She lives 3 hours away and Valentine's day is the only day of the year that we specifically set aside for each other to connect and be there with and for each other. Now that I am married and she has a boyfriend, we continue our tradition by going on a date around Vday (so we can spend that day with our special men).
Hope I win especially for the Outback gift card. Yum!!! That's my favorite restaraunt!

I love reading your posts and pray for your health. You have such a beautiful enthusiasm for life and family. I love that I've had the same Valentines lover for 12 years. He holds my heart everyday and I'm one lucky girl to be married Derek Lofgreen. You're give-away is from the heart indeed.

Emily said...

I was a little shocked that I discovered I was not an official follower since I love reading every day!! But... the world (my world anyway) has been set back on it's axis, made right, now that I'm a follower.

I ?think? I like Valentine's Day because our church puts on a dance and we cut-a-rug like the old days (except the time he dropped me a couple of years ago since we are getting old). When else do I get romantically dipped at the end of a song?

I definitely dislike the commercialism unless I get a discount because of the holiday.

Love your blog. Truly. And I'm not just saying that because you have amazing prizes. :-)

I have been a follower for a while. I love your blog. You are funny...okay hilarious. And right to the point. I love it!!

I'm new to your blog but I like it - very cute! I'm following you now.

I LOVE Valentine's Day! I know it's commercial, but it's still nice. It helps that I have a sweet fiance, though. :)

Of course I'll follow you!
I love and dislike Valentine's day all at once. I love it because it gives my husband and I an extra excuse to go on a date. But I dislike the commercializing of it.

I love Valentine's day! It so pink and pretty! It's one of my favorite holidays, and probably my very favorite to decorate for. I'm excited to be a new follower, too!

Jessica said...

Hi Anna. I hopped over from Jenny Denton's blog and am now following you. I love Valentine's Day! Not because I'm a hopeless romantic but because I'm a hopeless candy addict and I love the Valentine's candy. Plus you can't go wrong with red and pink everywhere you look.

Alysa said...

Sure I'll follow ya! Reason 1: I'd love to help you get published, as an aspiring author myself! But don't buy into the pressure too much, ahhnna, if you write good, you'll do well. Reason 2: I am aunt Helen's niece, too, on the other side! Reason 3: Hello awesome prize pack, duh! Best of luck!

Alysa said...

oh shoot i forgot to say something about valentines day! Okay, I love it because it breaks up the nasty weather with a little celebration!

Meghan said...

I am now a follower! I'm so/so on V-Day.... it is like New Years Eve, it always holds so much promise and then seems to fall short, well all of this was before I got married. Now he surprises me with roses, and chocolates, and flowers.....

Stephanie Cozzens said...

I'll be a follower in about 30 seconds. (Wasn't I already? Is this new?)

My mom died on Valentine's Day. I didn't like it much before then anyway.

Kimberly Paige said...

I am a follower and love your writing! As for Valentines day, I am not a fan. I think it is a rediculous that some people need a holiday to tell someone they love them or to do something special. I am glad that my husband does special things for me all year long!

Kimberly Paige said...

I let all my friends and family know that your blog is now one that I love reading. I love blogging also, so it is a joy to share about yours on my blog!

Sue said...

What a cool giveaway! And I just became a follower (not for the giveaway, but because I like what I see here).

As for the Valentine's Day question, I love it. Why? Because I'm a sucker for such things. And it gives me a chance to make a little extra fuss over my hubby...and have a little extra fuss made over me!

=)

Jess said...

For funsies! I, like sue, just became a follower- you write in a way that makes me giggle a little.

I love the idea of valentines day, but really I I think I hate it. The commercialism of it all the price of flowers tripled for a single event- it's the cheap-skate in me that loathes that side of V day.

Kelli said...

i am a follower. and i think valentine's day is just a day. like, i will be in SD while F is in Phx for Valentine's...it isn't that cool, but the decorations are scrumptious. Xo

karen★ said...

this is my additional comment to say that you are officially my happiness tip for the day...with a link (of course) to your giveaway! this means i get another entry for your "random" drawing right?

myorii said...

I just followed you :) I found you through Jenny Denton's page. Quite an interesting thing you have here. I'm not going to enter into the drawing since I live overseas and want to spare you the pain of having to ship international :) Plus, we follow a fairly different valentine tradition here (the girls give the gifts, not the men) Good luck with your publishers!

melanie said...

I am so glad you still blog. I feel totally connected with you because of it. I wish everyone still was blogging... those were the good old days. I am just glad you do. You always have something interesting to say... Your the best! I love Valentines day! Just a fun and loving time and no stress.(hope my cookie turn out this year)

Liz said...

I am a follower. I used to love Valentine's Day. I still love red and pink but I currently dislike Valentine's Day because I miss my one true valentine a whole lot that day.

Heather said...

I've been a follower for a long time ;) I'll keep it up.

My husband and I ALWAYS celebrate in Feb 15. It's kind of a joke to see who can get the cheapest bargain on the discount rack.

Au Lit said...

Mais bien sur je te suis! For official like, now :-). I think you can probably guess how I currently feel about Valentine's Day. I loved it as a kid, though, painstakingly making dozens of valentines by hand with construction paper, paper doilies and just a dab of glitter here and there. Good times.

LadybugLady said...

Valentines Day is awesome! It's the day you can be totally over-the-top mushy! I think I get more excited to see my kids valentines from school than they do!

Jamie said...

I am now an official follower- great motivation by the way (the pleading works for me). I like holidays in general. I like a reason to celebrate. That being said, Valentine's Day is probably my least favorite. It seems to always be a bit of a let down. I think the best part of valentine's day is making a valentine's box. Good thing I have kids.

Arica said...

I follow. I heart valentines day and I always have. I dig making valentines! My cute boyfriend now husband had a plan for us to get engaged on valentines day. However, he was so excited about the whole thing that he got the days confused and actually proposed on Friday the 13th instead:) So we celebrate on the 13th and 14th. You know any reason to have a party!!

Jamie said...

I'm following yoU! SO glad Jen linked to your blog, you have a real talent for writing. Valentines Day I love-I got engaged on Valentines Day :) It has a special place in my heart. My favorite part of the day is making sure my kids and husband know how much I love them. I even do the all red dinner & buy them all those silly little heart boxes of chocolates. Just a sap for <3 I guess!

Heather said...

So, Somehow I'm still following that old blog of yours, Choose the Write. Today somebody posted on it, so I guess that means someone else has it now. It's SUPER cheesy.

Can I have an extra entry for letting you know.

How do I stop following it now. Yuck.
